Richard Francis Meuret

September 18, 1923 — April 9, 2016

Richard F. Meuret, 92, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, April 9, 2016, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Daniel Rupp officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Richard was born on Sept. 18, 1923, on a farm near Orchard, Neb., the son of Edward and Marie (Mies) Meuret. He attended country school until the family moved to Sioux City in 1935. Richard graduated from East High School in 1941. He served in the Pacific during World War II and was honorably discharged as a U.S. Army staff sergeant.
He was united in marriage to Ramona C. Steffen on July 3, 1950, in Constance, Neb., in a double ceremony with her sister, Eleanor and husband, Pete Burbach. Richard hired out on the Great Northern Railroad as a fireman in 1946 and retired as an engineer in 1986.
He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, where he belonged to the Men's Club and was a longtime usher. Richard was a past member of the Moose and Lions Clubs. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling.
Those left to honor his memory include his five daughters, Michele (Roger) Jackson of Creston, Iowa, Jackie (Russ) White of Des Moines, Renee Meuret (Ken Farley) of Santa Barbara, Calif., Elise (Rick) Novotny of Sioux City, and Cheri (Dan) Jensen, Mankato, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ramona; three sisters, Sister Mary Loyola Meuret, Jeanne Burri and Arlene Meuret; great-grandson, Brecken Novotny; and longtime friends, Jack and Mona Graham.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Holy Spirit for taking such good care of Richard.
Memorials may be made to Queen of Peace in Sioux City.
