Richard Warren "Dick" Nettleton Sr., 62, of Sergeant Bluff was taken into his savior’s arms on Dec. 31, 2013. He was surrounded by his loving family to the very end.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Nativity Catholic Church, with the Rev. Steven McLoud officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:30 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 6:30 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Dick was born on Oct. 5, 1951, in Norfolk, Neb., to Guy and Beth Nettleton. The family moved to the Sioux City area shortly after his birth, where he resided the rest of his life. Dick was a graduate of East High School class of 1969, and then earned his bachelor’s degree from Morningside College in 1973. He had a distinguished career building relationships for Bankers Life, Phillips Marketing, Gateway and MCI. Most recently, Dick was the district representative for Heartland Payment Systems.
Dick was united in marriage to his beloved, Mary Lynn Webb, on April 25, 1998. They made their home in Sergeant Bluff.
The center of his large and loving family and blessed with a prodigious circle of friends and admirers, Dick had the rare ability to touch the heart of every person he met. He always held faith and family first and was an avid fisherman and talented musician. He taught seventh-grade CCD for 14 years at Nativity Church. Dick was sober for 23 years, and actively involved in the AA community. He loved and was loved by all, and will be deeply missed. He was the best.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lynn; his children, Rich (Katrina) Nettleton, Bob (Tiffany) Nettleton, Molly (Kelsey) Young, Sarah (Ryan) Avery, and Guy (Shoko) Nettleton; stepsons, Peter Webb and Justin Webb; mother, Beth Nettleton; brother, David (Sherry) Nettleton; sister Lori (James) Engler; grandchildren, Jordan, Bobby, Madison, Karli, Miles, Michael, Rachael, Charles, Westin, Mikah, Tal, Liam, Mia Bella, Rinoa, and one on the way, Julia; his mother- and father in-law, Owen and Shirley Harrold; brothers-in-law, Greg (Shirley) Harrold, and Jim Harrold; sisters-in-law, Sue (Joe) Harrold-Walding, and Jean (Ken) Loberg.
Dick was preceded in death by his father, Guy Nettleton Jr., who passed away in November 2012.
