SIOUX CITY -- Richard B. Pixler, 86, of Sioux City passed away March 29, 2011, at a local nursing home.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Merrill Muller officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Arlington Township Cemetery, Moville, Iowa. Visitation will be 1 p.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
Richard was born Feb. 5, 1925, in Castana, Iowa, to Roy and Martha (Smothers) Pixler. He attended school in the Castana and Turin, Iowa, area. He had been a Siouxland resident his entire life. He served in the U.S. Navy and later the U.S. Army.
On Dec. 17, 1985, he married DeAune Boggs in North Sioux City. He was a police officer with the Sioux City Police Department, retiring in 1983. He was later employed as a security guard for Mercy Medical Center from 1983 to 1993.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, camping and gardening.
Survivors include his wife, DeAune Pixlier of Sioux City; a son, Darin and Jami Pixler of Sioux City; three stepchildren, Jerry Pixler, Doug Pixler and Lori Solomon, all of Sioux City; four grandchildren; a great-grandchildren; a sister; and a brother.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
