LAWTON, Iowa -- Richard "Dick" V. Rowe, 68, of rural Lawton died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2009, at his residence after a long illness.
Memorial services will be 9 a.m. Monday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. James A. Bruch, Pastor, officiating. Mr. Rowe was cremated according to his wishes. Private burial services will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Berkemier Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes.
Richard "Dick" was born on March 29, 1941, in Sioux City, the son of Vincent A. and Betty I. (Tone) Rowe. He graduated from Heelan High School in 1959. Dick lived in the Siouxland area most of his life, except for four years when he lived in California. He married Sharon Mae White on Sept. 24, 1960, in Sioux City. To this union, four children were born.
He married Mona Lund in August 1987, in Elk Point, S.D. He was employed as a truck driver for Messer Distributing, sales and delivery. He then worked as a self-employed driver. Richard drove a cab for a short time, was a mail carrier and then drove a garbage truck for the city of Sioux City. For the last 10 years, he had been a Sioux City Journal carrier.
He was a member of the Teamsters Union. He was of the Catholic faith. He belonged to the Loafers Car Club. Dick enjoyed playing pool, fishing and hunting.
Survivors include three sons, Russell Rowe and Terri Kotz of Cresbard, S.D., Rodney and his wife, Char Rowe of Elk Point, S.D., and Randy and Jana Rowe of Bronson, Iowa; a daughter, Suzanne Langley of Elk Point; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Raymond Rowe and his wife, Kathy of Sioux City, and Jerome Rowe of Omaha; a sister and her husband, Lorraine and Lynn Kohl of Sergeant Bluff; a very special friend and companion, Cathie Dennis of Bronson; two stepsons; five stepdaughters; several stepgrandchildren; and seven nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent A. and Betty I. (Tone) Rowe; and two grandchildren.
