Richard F. Scott, 40, formerly of Sioux City died of natural causes Friday, April 11, 2014, at his residence in Centerville, Iowa.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City, with Neil Peck officiating. Visitation with the family will be 1 p.m. until service time Sunday at the funeral home.
Rich was born on Oct. 5, 1973, in Sioux City, the son of Mark and Jane (Myerchin) Scott. He was raised in Sioux City and attended Sioux City Catholic schools and graduated from Heelan High School in 1992. Rich then did his undergraduate studies at the University of Iowa, graduating in 1997. He earned his law degree from the University of Iowa Law School in 2000. One of Rich’s greatest loves was the practice of law.
Rich worked as the assistant county attorney for Mahaska County in Oskaloosa, Iowa, and later went to work as the attorney for Musco Lighting Co. in Oskaloosa. In 2007, he became the county attorney for Appanoose County in Centerville, Iowa, and currently held that position.
He was a member of the Iowa Bar Association. Rich enjoyed sports, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes, Oakland Raiders and playing golf. He was an avid reader and truly enjoyed his dog, Scout.
He is survived by his father, Mark (Margie) Scott of Dakota Dunes, S.D.; his sister, Angie (Kurt) Belger of Urbandale, Iowa; a nephew; two nieces; his aunts, Joanie Scott and Marilyn Scott; and three uncles, Larry (Vera) and Burl (Lois) Scott, and Greg Myerchin.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Jane Scott; both sets of grandparents; and two uncles, Richard Scott, and Max Scott.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Noah’s Hope Rescue in Sioux City.
