Sioux City - Richard J. Svoboda, 73, of Red Oak, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, passed away Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, at Montgomery County Hospital in Red Oak.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Richard was born on June 19, 1940, in Lawrence, Neb., to William and Hildegard (Venhaus) Svoboda.
Richard enjoyed fishing, playing cards, cooking, baking, and making wine. He was an avid gun collector and a marksman shooter.
Survivors include his sons, Todd and Denise Svoboda of Elliott, Iowa, Melvin Svoboda, and Bernard Svoboda of Elliott; a daughter, Debbie and Bob Packard of Bronson, Iowa; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brothers, William Jr., Larry and John; and sisters, Ann, Kathy, Mary, Chris, Nancy and Debbie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ada; and a great-grandchild.
