SIOUX CITY -- Richard David Wessendorf, 77, of Sioux City died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012, at a Sioux City hospital.
A prayer service will be held 7 p.m. Monday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Harold Werley officiating. Visitation with the family present will be 5 p.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.
Richard was born Dec. 31, 1934 at Storm Lake, Iowa, the son of George and Ruth (Morgan) Wessendorf. He grew up and attended school in Nemaha, Iowa, graduating from Nemaha High School.
Richard married Betty Lauer on June 9, 1957. Together they made their home in Fort Dodge, Iowa, and in 1971 moved to the Sioux City area. Richard sold used cars. He owned and operated Dick's Kar Corner in South Sioux City.
Richard enjoyed watching NASCAR, fishing, guns and collecting pens.
He is survived by his wife, Betty of Sioux City; two sons and their wives, Randy and Jody Wessendorf of Sioux City, and Jeffrey and Kim Wessendorf of South Sioux City; three grandchildren, Brandon Wessendorf of Sergeant Bluff, Kristi Wessendorf and Richie Wessendorf, both of Sioux City; two great-grandchildren, Brayden and Thyan; two brothers and their wives, Ronald and Sandy Wessendorf of Creighton, Neb., and John and Kathy Wessendorf of Zumbroda, Minn.; and a sister, Sue Wessendorf of Schaller, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Brenda; great-granddaughter, Taylen; one brother, Larry and one sister, Janet.
