Ricke Sloan, 67, died August 4, 2021, after a lifelong illness.
A memorial/celebration service will be held on Ricke’s 68th birthday, Saturday, September 11, 2021. Visitation is at 10:30 a.m. with the service at 11:00 a.m. at Good News Baptist Church, 3200 W 19th St., Sioux City, IA 51103. Memorials in Ricke’s name may be sent as donations to the Church. She attended East High School and grew up with four sisters and two brothers. In the 1970s she met William (Bill) Sloan, and they married in 1983. In her early 30s, Ricke worked at MCI Telecommunications in Sioux City. She quickly excelled at telephone sales and earned a recurring position in that company’s President’s Club. Ricke was a voracious reader and became an administrative volunteer leader at McCook Baptist Church. She also explored artificial floral arranging and gifted her creations to her family.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Sloan; siblings, Dawn Bashara (Ness) of Omaha, NE, Norma Cotter of South Sioux City, NE, Pamela Boetger (Dwight) of North Sioux City, SD, Dennis Welch (Kathy) of Hubbard, NE, and Susan Welch of Sioux City, IA; plus 16 nieces and nephews and their children.
Ricke is preceded in death by her parents, Bert and Alma Welch; brother, Patrick Welch (Markie); stepbrother, Bert Welch (Deb); stepsister, Sherry Higgenbotham (Rob); grand-niece, Alivia Johnson; and grand-nephew, Casey Boetger.
