Rita Rosemary Breidenbach was born Aug. 13, 1922, in Geddes, S.D., the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Haley) Breidenbach. The family lived in the Geddes and Lake Andes, S.D., area until the mid 1930s, when she came to Sioux City. She graduated in 1940 from the all-girls' Cathedral High School in Sioux City, where she established many lifelong friendships.

She married Thomas Edward "Ted" Davis on Dec. 23, 1943. Ted died Sept. 9, 2000.

Rosemary was first and foremost a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved baking and cooking for her family. She was a pillar of the Cathedral of the Epiphany parish for more than 65 years. She coordinated the church funeral dinners, the priest dinners and annual church fundraising dinners. She was a member of the Carmelite Guild Board and held multiple offices. She was a member and office holder of the Council of Catholic Women, both on the Sioux City Diocesan level (DCCW) and national level (NCCW). She was a charter member of the Catholic Daughters of America Ave Maria Court 269.

Rosemary was a proud supporter of Catholic education (Epiphany Grade School, Bishop Heelan High School, Trinity Prep Seminary, Briar Cliff University, Loras College and St. Joseph Mercy School of Nursing). She also was a member of the League of Women Voters.

She enjoyed gardening, playing cards and fishing. She loved music and dancing. She was an excellent seamstress and cake decorator. A big part of her life was spent admiring God's creatures, especially the tiniest chickadees and the most brilliant cardinals who wintered in her backyard.

Rosemary is lovingly remembered by her children and their spouses, Tom and Mary Beth Davis of Crystal, Minn., Anne Marie "Ann" and Dennis Dose of Holstein, Iowa, Dan and Linda Davis of Springfield, Mo., Jim and Leslie Davis of Sioux City, Rita and Shawn Donnelly of Sioux City, Lisa and Tom Thompson of Sioux City, Roberta O'Brien, a foster daughter, of Escondido, Calif.; 18 grandchildren and their significant others, Greg and Maggie Davis, Tim Davis and Samantha Loecks, Jeff Davis, John and Cathy Rorke, Rob Rorke, Lindsey Rorke, Amanda and Jason Bennett, Chad and Stacy Dose, Brenda and Troy Thams, Brooke and Jeff Hammons, Blake Ervin, Erica and Kyle Bonstead, Mark and Dijon Davis, Andrea Davis, Davis Donnelly, Beth Thompson, Mark White and Deanne Babcock; 16 great-grandchildren, Lucy Davis, Jacob Rorke, Caleb Rorke, Ian Bennett, Zowie Bennett, Maddie Mitchell, Jake Mitchell, Sara Dose, Jonathan Dose, Lydia Thams, Gavin Thams, Rowan Hammons, Mackenzie Ervin, Braxton Ervin, Keegan Bonstead, and Breckan Bonstead; and many nieces and nephews.
