Rita Grace "Grace" Noltze

SIOUX CITY -- Rita Grace Noltze, 84, of Sioux City died Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009, at Holy Spirit Nursing Home in Sioux City.

Services will be 10:45 a.m. Thursday in the Holy Spirit Chapel, Holy Spirit Nursing Home, with the Rev. Dennis Meinen officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.

Grace was born on Dec. 16, 1924, in Alton, Iowa, the daughter of Peter and Agnes (Brunsmann) Wiltgen. She was raised on a farm in the Alton area and graduated from St. Mary's Academy. She graduated from St. Joseph School of Nursing in Sioux City in 1945. She moved to California for a couple of years before returning to Sioux City.

Grace married Carl Noltze (JR) on Jan. 3, 1948, in California. They divorced in 1977. Grace worked as an R.N. at St. Joseph Hospital in the orthopedic unit and later for Gordon Chemical Hospital. She worked at St. Vincent Hospital in their first chemical dependency unit. Grace also was a nursing instructor at St. Joseph School of Nursing and at Western Iowa Tech.

She was a longtime member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and also belonged to St. Michael Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Epslon Delta Chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. One of her great gifts was her love for helping others. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her son and his wife, Charles and Geri Noltze of Sioux City; her daughter and her husband, Carley and Dave Hurni of El Mirage, Ariz.; her daughter, Barb Madison of Denver, Colo.; her sister, Viv Kane of Washington; six grandchildren, Lexi Heine, Travis Hurni, Matt Madison, Jeanne Rasmussen, Jessica Van Holland and Jacob Noltze; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and eight brothers and sisters.

A memorial has been established in her name for Hospice of Siouxland.
