Rita Ann Kirchmeier (Riibe)

SIOUX CITY -- Rita Ann Kirchmeier, 82, of Sioux City passed away Jan. 15, 2011 at a local nursing home.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. Michael Erpelding officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, Hartington, Neb. Visitation will be 3:30 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer services at 7 p.m., at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes.
Rita was born April 15, 1928, in Hartington, Neb., to Frank and Barbara (Manley) Riibe. She lived, grew up and attended school in Hartington until she was in the eighth grade. It was then that she moved with her family to Sioux City. She later attended school at the Cathedral.
Rita married Leo Raymond Kirchmeier on May 17, 1951 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sioux City. The family lived in Sioux City from the time they were married until 1961, when they moved to California. They lived until 1965. They then lived in Omaha until 1968, before moving to Malvern, Iowa. In 1974, the family returned to Sioux City. She has been a resident here since. Leo passed away on June 19, 1986.
She was a former member of St. Casimir Catholic Church, Church of the Nativity, where she was involved in the Ladies Guild, and finally returning to her home church at St. Joseph's. Rita will be remembered as a strong-willed individual, who enjoyed family and friends and conversations with both as well, a good cup of coffee, shopping, dogs, she was truly devoted to her faith and family.
Survivors include two children, Tom and Trudy Kirchmeier of Sioux City and Debra and James Minor of Sioux City; five grandsons, Jacob and Kari Kirchmeier of Sioux City, Bryan and Lacey Kirchmeier of Sioux City, Martin Kirchmeier of Iowa City, Iowa, Thomas Rausch of Sioux City, Josh Rausch of Sioux City; two great-grandsons, Noah and Donovon Kirchmeier; and several nieces and nephews
Preceding her in death was her husband; parents; a daughter, Shirley Kirchmeier-Phillips; five brothers; and two sisters.
In lieu of flowers, the family will be establishing a memorial.
