Rita G. Treinen, 96, of Sioux City died Sunday Sept. 21, 2014, at Sunrise Retirement Community.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Dan Rupp officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, with a St. Theresa Study Club rosary at 4 p.m., the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Rita was born on Aug. 3, 1918, in Alton, Iowa, the daughter of G.A. and Ida Rose (Sauer) Lieb. After graduation from Cathedral High School in 1936, Rita worked for Dr. Rohr for several years. She attended Briar Cliff College later in life.
She was united in marriage to Robert Dale Treinen on June 20, 1944, in Sioux City. They made their home in Sioux City, where all eight children were born. Her dear "Bob" sadly died on May 26, 1959.
She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, St. Teresa Study Club and the church confraternity. Rita was also a member of the League of Women Voters. She enjoyed playing bridge, making stained glass, sewing, gardening, cooking and visiting lifelong friends.
Life on earth will not be as sweet without Rita Grace Treinen’s incredible smile, hearty laugh, twinkling wink and her gift for making everyone near her feel so special and loved. And as Rita so often said, "My dear Bob will be waiting there to pull me up into heaven."
Survivors include her children, Mary (John) Treinen Moslen of Albuquerque, N.M., John of Aurora, Colo., James (Eva) of Lawton, Iowa, Jerry (Theresa) of Rapid City, S.D., Richard (Angela) of Bartlesville, Okla., Anne (Joe) Hanson of Dubuque, Iowa, and Michael (Amy) of Cortez, Colo.; 19 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, LaVern Kelly of Long Beach, Calif.; and special cousin, Mary Louis Even of Sioux City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; son, Tom; grandson, Gregory; siblings, Tommy Lieb, Louis Lieb, Joe Lieb, Rose Mary Hines and Marian Sheehan; and daughter-in-law, "Sweet Sue" Treinen.
So true to Rita, "People are like stained glass windows. They sparkle when the sun is out, but when darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only when there is light from within." Elizabeth Kubler Ross.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may directed to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
