Robert R. Anderson, 91, of Sioux City, passed away Sunday, Feb. 26, 2017, at a local care facility.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St James United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Willow Township Cemetery, Climbing Hill, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 6 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Robert was born on Dec. 4, 1925, in Randolph, Neb., the son of Francis L and Florence J. (Clare) Anderson. His early years saw him moving many times eventually ending in Pierson, Iowa, where he finished his high school education. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Following his discharge, he moved to Sioux City and was united in marriage with Ardith Vermilyea on May 8, 1952 at First United Methodist Church. Ardith passed away on May 29, 2016 in Sioux City.
Robert worked for Philly Dairy Company for three years before joining Metz Baking Company, where he worked for 36 years as a delivery driver. Following his retirement from Metz, he drove a bus for AEA for 10 years.
Robert was a member of St. James United Methodist Church for more than 60 years. He enjoyed restoring cars, spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren's sporting events. Everyone that knew Bob was blessed. His kind heart, caring manner, and bright smile made an impact on everyone he met.
He is survived by his two daughters, Lora (John) Trudeau of Jefferson, S.D., and Sara Fuller (Lorenzo Hampton) of Green Acres, Fla.; his grandchildren, Andrew Trudeau and his fiancee, Mandy Strait, Bob Trudeau, J.C. Fuller (Tahlya Osothsongkroh), Lynsey Fuller, and Allysen Fuller; a great-granddaughter, Aaliyah Fuller; son-in-law, Jon Fuller; two brothers-in-law, Howard Huisenga, and Claire Dirks; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Anderson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and three sisters.
