SIOUX CITY -- Robert Lawrence Koch, 92, of Sioux City died at his home surrounded by his loving family on Jan. 30, 2012.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Grace United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Tony Nester officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church. Online condolences may be sent to

Robert was born March 28, 1919, in Omaha, to Lawrence and Evangeline (Robertson) Koch. In 1923, the family moved to Sioux City. Bob attended Whittier Grade School, East Junior and Senior High Schools.
Bob met Louise E. Cairy in a study hall at East High in 1935 and they married on Dec. 21, 1940 in Sioux City. Bob worked for the Farmers Union Commission Company, C.W. Britton Company and Tri-State Typewriter during these years. Bob began work with Royal Typewriter in May 1941. With the start of World War II, he began working at the Sioux City Airbase until 1945, when he returned to work for Royal Typewriter with territories including Nebraska and South Dakota. In 1951, Bob took a job with Remington Rand Company. In 1960, Bob went to work for Iowa Public Service Company, (now Mid-American Energy). Bob retired in 1981.
Through the years, the family enjoyed many vacations together. As the children grew Bob found more time for golf and bridge with dear friends. After his retirement, he and Louise continued to travel. He also devoted time to community organizations such as Morningside Kiwanis, Morningside Masonic Lodge 615 A.F. & A.M. and Consistory. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Louise of Sioux City; five children, Kay and Bob Wells of Ottumwa, Iowa, Larry and JoAnn Koch of Reisterstown, Md., Tom and Durand Koch of Cornelius, N.C., Barb and Mike Foister, and Linda and David Kellen, all of Sioux City; 14 grandchildren, Teri and Mike Sporer, Tracy and Jim Kahl, Pam and Neal Jones, Paula and Chad Muchmore, Lauren and Kevin Herlihy, Jeffrey Koch, Angela and Charlie Dannenmiller, Robert and Stephanie Koch, Michelle and Mason Gray, Robyn and Chad Banks, Allison and Matt Jahraus, Lindsey and Matt Rixner, Melissa Kellen, Michael Kellen and fiancee, Kayla Lamoureux; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Regina McCormick of Oceanside, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and a son-in-law, Gary Linn.
