Robert V. "Bob" McCue

Robert Vernon McCue, 74, of Sioux City died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008, at a Sioux City care center.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Southern Hills Baptist Church, with the Rev. David Miller officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes. Online condolences may be sent to www.christysmith.com .

Robert was born March 30, 1934, at Sioux City, the son of Vernon and Alice (Anderson) McCue. He grew up and attended school in Sioux City, graduating from East High School. Bob entered the U.S. Army in February of 1954, during the Korean War. He was stationed in England. After his honorable discharge in 1956, he continued his education at Midland College in Fremont, Neb.

He married Karen Miller on Feb. 14, 1960, here in Sioux City. Together they made their home here in Sioux City. Bob worked for Needham Packing Company as a refrigeration engineer. He then worked as a shift supervisor for Iowa Public Service, retiring in the mid-1990s.

He was an active member of Southern Hills Baptist Church. Bob enjoyed woodworking and helping his grandchildren with all their different projects. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and working outside with his hands.

Survivors include his wife, Karen of Sioux City; three daughters, Melanie and Troy Groeneweg of Santa Clarita, Calif., Candace and Kyle Brinkman of Rolfe, Iowa, and Rhonda McCue of Phoenix, Ariz.; grandchildren, Kaitlin and Robert Groeneweg, Anne, Joel and Janie Brinkman; three sisters, Marilyn Marsh of Dakota Dunes, Elaine and Don Lindgren of Des Moines, and Jeanine and Jim Forney of Des Moines; a brother, David McCue of Wichita, Kan.; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
