SIOUX CITY -- Robert Leverne Swanson, 75, of Sioux City died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ryan Christenson of St. James United Methodist Church officiating. Bob was born Jan. 30, 1937, in Sioux City, to Wilbur and Bertha (Dyer) Swanson. He grew up and attended Sioux City Public Schools, graduating from East High School in 1955. He attended Iowa State University and graduated with a bachelor's degree in architectural engineering in 1961. After graduation, he went to work for AT&T and was transferred with the company through several states, returning to Sioux City in 1967. He then went to work for W.A. Klinger Company as an architectural engineer. He retired in 2000 after 33 years with the company.
Bob married Carolyn A. Roos on Feb. 7, 1959, in Sioux City. The couple raised two children, Jana and Kevin. Carolyn died on Jan. 13, 2009.
His hobbies included fishing, golfing and traveling, especially with his wife to the mountains of Colorado and New Mexico. They especially enjoyed the Albuquerque and Santa Fe area. Bob enjoyed spending time with good friends daily at Bob Roe's Point After. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his three grandchildren.
Survivors include his son, Kevin Swanson of Sioux City; a daughter, Jana L. Swanson-Palmesano and her husband, John of Omaha; three grandchildren, Kyle, Joey and Kelli Palmesano, all of Omaha; a brother, Kenneth and Charleen Swanson of Fridley, Minn.; a sister, Shirley and James Moldt of Davenport, Iowa; two nieces; and three nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn; and his parents.
