Robert Brewer, of Sioux City, formerly of Storm Lake, passed away Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, at Countryside Retirement Community in Sioux City.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Morningside Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Duane Queen officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Robert was born June 25, 1919, in Sioux Falls, S.D., the son of Sherman and Katherine (Green) Brewer. He attended school at Sioux Falls Public Schools. Robert work in various jobs up to 1942, when he enlisted in the U.S. Marines during World War II, where he became a member of the Marine 's 4th Division serving his country in the Pacific Theater. When he was honorably discharged in 1945, he returned to Sioux Falls.
Robert married Anne (Brix) Gembarowski on Feb. 15, 1947. Together they made their home in Sioux Falls, where Robert worked for Lewis Drug. They moved to Sioux City in 1953, and Robert worked for Iowa Public Service. He transferred to Humboldt, Iowa, in 1972, then to Storm Lake in 1978, where he retired in 1986 after 33 years of service. They then returned to Sioux City in September of 2013.
Robert was actively involved in everything he did. He was a member of Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake and Morningside Presbyterian Church in Sioux City. He was a member and past president of the Morningside Commercial Club and a member and president of the Humboldt Lion’s Club. Robert was a former board member of the Storm Lake Public Library and a member of the Storm Lake Kiwanis Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an avid golfer. He enjoyed playing cards with his friends and after a round of golf. He was also famous for his Christmas candy.
He is survived by his wife, Anne of Sioux City; daughters, Marcia and Greg Corsiglia of Melbourne, Australia, and Janice and Dennis Wood of Doylestown, Pa.; son, Kevin and Cindy Brewer of Sioux City; six grandchildren, Amanda Wood, Matthew Wood, David Lyon, Katie Lyon, Adam Brewer and Ashley (Travis) McCarter; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; and two brothers.
