SIOUX CITY -- Robert E. "Bud" Larson, 86, of Sioux City passed away Friday, Jan. 9, 2009, at Regency Square Care Center in South Sioux City following a lengthy illness.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Calvary Lutheran Church, with the Rev. James W. Travis officiating. Burial will be in Rademacher Cemetery, east of Hinton, Iowa, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post of Hinton. Bud was born July 4, 1922, in Sioux City, the son of Charles E. and Alma (Freed) Larson. He had lived in the Sioux City area most of his life. He served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1946.
He married Vivian A. Kelsey in March 1947 in Elk Point, S.D. She died Jan. 2, 2006, in Sioux City. He farmed his own land from 1949 to 2008. He also was a livestock trucker for many years.
He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church. He enjoyed antique and farm sales. He was a member of the American Legion Casper Post 477 of Hinton, Iowa. He raised horses and organized trail rides. He also was one of the last to farm his land with a team of horses.
He is survived by four sons, Keith and Marlene Larson of Sioux City, Kent Larson and Paula Duggan, both of South Sioux City, Kevin Larson of San Francisco, Calif., and Robbie and Heidi Larson of Sioux City; four daughters, Patricia and Ed Welte of Danbury, Iowa, Gerri Breyfogle of Sioux City, Lindy Jessen and Brad Carlson of Bronson, Iowa, and Lorri Winterlin of Sioux City; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Hardersen of Hinton, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Elmer Larson.
Pallbearers will be Pat Timmons, Doug Smith, Ray Richtermeier, Barry Jessen, James Mahr, Chad Carlson and Tyrone Larson.
