Robert A. Cline, 94, of Sioux City, passed away Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home, Sioux City.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.
Robert was born on Aug. 7, 1922, in Centerville, Iowa, to Peter and Ida (Burgess) Cline. Robert joined the U.S. Army Reserves and was called up to serve in World War II. After that he joined the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1962 after 23 years.
Robert was united in marriage to Edith Carmack-Jewell in June 1950. They had two children, five grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. He moved to Sioux City in 1956. On March 15,1975, he then married Janice Camarigg-Stoltze, and had eight stepchildren, 28 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. He later married Wanda Camarigg-Hammond and had one stepchild and nine grandchildren.
Robert was a member of Eagles Lodge and the 185th Air Guard. He enjoyed fishing at Storm Lake, Iowa, camping, traveling, playing cribbage, and having fish fries with his family. Bob was a great father and grandfather to all of us, he always remembered birthdays, and he always made time for us. He loved watching baseball, listening to music, making the best peanut butter sandwiches (very heavy on the peanut butter), and cooked the best steaks. One of our favorite memories was listening to his stories about his time in the service, golf stories and of course fishing stories. If there was a life event like a wedding or graduation he did everything in his power to be there, I don't think he missed many.
Those left to honor his memory include his two sons, Larry (Linda) Cline of Sioux City, and Jason (Marilyn) Cline of Sioux City; seven stepchildren, Aneta (Gary) Inlay of Ohio, Sheila (Dave) Smith of Arkansas, Monty (Gerri) Stoltze of Missouri, Marea (Kris) Jacobson of Sioux City, Faith (Tim) Gruis of Des Moines, Carl (Carmelita) Stoltze of Missouri, and Scott (Joni) Hammond of California; 42 grandchildren; 61 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; stepchildren, Ed Stoltze and Janice Jasman; and siblings, Dorothy, Cordelia, Wayne, Mary, and Roy.
