Robert S. "Bob" Edlund, 79, of Sioux City was welcomed into heaven to be with our Savior Jesus on Friday, Sept. 4, 2015, after a hard-fought battle with heart disease.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Central Baptist Church, 4001 Indian Hills Drive, in Sioux City. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with special family friend Harold Youtzy delivering the salvation message. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Bob was born in Sioux City on Sept. 16, 1935, the son of Victor and Agnes (Westlund) Edlund. His education consisted of Bryant Elementary, North Junior, and graduating from Central High School in 1953. Bob attended Bethel College, the University of Iowa, Iowa State, and Morningside College, graduating with a master's degree in mathematics and education.
He married Nita Harris on Sept. 1, 1961. He served in the U.S. Army and raised four children with God's help after Nita's death in 1982. Bob taught for 42 years at various schools throughout California and the Sioux City area. He also farmed for a short while in Akron, Iowa, and worked on a combine tour throughout the Midwest.
Bob traveled the world playing masters basketball. He loved playing NBA (Noon Ball Association) at Morningside College well into his upper 70s. Enjoying his children's and grandchildren's various activities was an important part of his life. Bob often liked to embark on spur-of-the-moment adventures. On one occasion, Sweden was the destination to research his ancestry and visit relatives.
The most important aspect of his life was his relationship with Jesus Christ and sharing the free gift of salvation with others.
Survivors include three daughters, one son, and five grandchildren, Kris Edlund Bumsted of Waco, Texas, Katy Edlund Blake and husband, Juan, and their children, Casey and Josie of Lawton, Iowa, Amy Edlund Duehn and husband, Jim of Sioux City, and Andy Edlund and wife Kerri, and their children, Anneka, Wayde, and Emmett; older brother, Calvin Edlund and his wife, Marlys of Meadow Vista, Calif.; and younger sister, Sue Edlund, of Dakota City.
