SIOUX CITY -- Robert E. Golliday, 79, of Sioux City died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Larry Adler officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, with military rites conducted. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Robert was born April 30, 1929, in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Robert and Lucy (Meck) Golliday. He was raised in Burlington and attended school there. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1950, and served for 20 years. He retired in 1970.
In 1960, he married Margaret Shawuer in Marquette, Mich. They later divorced. After he retired from the service, he worked on upholstering boats in Florida and also worked at a lumberyard in Key Largo, Fla. He came to Sioux City in 1975.
He loved to read and enjoyed Louis Lamour novels and loved watching western movies. He built model airplanes to scale and some are being donated to the Sioux City Air History Museum. He also did upholstering as a hobby.
Survivors include his children, Lewis Hardin of Osage Beach, Mo., Connie and Kerry Ledford of Key Largo, Fla., Jack and Patty Hardin of Winston-Salem, N.C., Nancy Bellmer of Osage Beach, and Debora Parks of So. Pasadena, Calif.; a brother, Frank Golliday of Guthrie, Okla.; a sister, Shirley Schaffner and her husband, William of Russelville, Mo.; seven grandchildren; nieces and nephews, which includes nieces who took care of him, Terese and Douglas Millage of Dakota Dunes, Jacqueline and Gary Goodrich of Maple Grove, Mo., Julie and William Hansen of Sioux City and Sherrie and Mark Wolterman of Danbury, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Violet Golliday of Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, LaVerne "Red" Golliday and Hersal H. Golliday; and a sister, Charlotte Brown.
Pallbearers will be Kent Fredricksen, Tyler Hansen, Nicholas Dicus, Damian Dicus, Brandon Goodrich and Andrew Johns.
