Robert A. Green, 66, of South Sioux City, NE passed away at his home Tuesday, February 6, 2018 after a courageous 3 yearlong battle with cancer. A visitation will be held at Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, Morningside Chapel on Saturday, February 17 at noon, with a memorial service to follow at 1:30 PM.
Bob was born on July 5, 1951 in Omaha, NE to Robert and Alta (Phillips) Green. He attended and graduated from high school in Omaha. On October 9, 1970, Bob married Debbie Derochie in Dakota City, NE. Shortly after, they moved to South Sioux City, NE where they made their home. For 42 years, Bob worked as a supervisor for a local meat packing plant. After retiring, he finished his career at a job he thoroughly enjoyed, Gateway Engineering.
Bob’s life revolved around his family. Bob enjoyed bike riding with his wife, Debbie, traveling to visit his family, and he enjoyed spending time with his kids and being “Papa Bob” to his grandkids. He coached his boys in youth soccer for many years and with the help of Rod Allen and Portifino Diaz, initiated the South Sioux Soccer Club giving high school boys the chance to compete before soccer was a high school sport in South Sioux City.
Bob is survived by his wife, Debbie Green of South Sioux City, NE; sons, Rob Green and his wife Amie of St. Albans VT, and Justin Green and his wife Nicky of Prairie Village, KS; grandkids, Brady, Kaylee, Gavin, and Lola; brother, Dwight Green and his wife Jacque of Lincoln, NE; Sister, Debbie Medina of Georgetown, CA; father and mother-in-law, Ralph and Ella Derochie of Sioux City; brothers-in-law, Neal Derochie and his wife Cheryl of Sioux City, and Ron Derochie and his wife Ann of Sioux City; sister-in-law, Carla Elliot and her husband Rick of Sioux City; numerous nieces and nephews; and his dog, Zoey.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
