SIOUX CITY -- Robert "Bob" J. Jessen, 83, of Sioux City passed away Monday, Nov. 21, 2011 at a Sioux City hospital.
Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday in Graceland Park Cemetery. Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Bob was born on Oct. 18, 1928 in rural Danbury, Iowa. He was the son of William R. and Elsie C. (Petersen) Jessen. He grew up and attended school in the Danbury area. Bob served three years in the U.S. Army, serving most of his time in Germany.
In September of 1953, he married Beverly L. Betz. Bob was a man of many trades, including electrician, home builder, farming, and he owned and managed the Sioux City Livestock Commission Co.
Bob enjoyed golfing, playing cards, and going to coffee with friends. He was member of the Abu Bekr Shrine and was 32nd degree Mason.
Survivors include best friend, Jerry Crossland; two children, Stephanie (Tracy) Sharples of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Douglas Jessen of Irving, Texas; one grandson, Kohlby Sharples; a brother, Frank (Vi) Jessen of Stuart, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly.
