SIOUX CITY -- Robert L. Schroeder, 90, of Sioux City died Sunday, Oct. 17, 2010, at a Sioux City nursing home.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. The Rev. Matthew Wentz of Morningside Church of Christ, will officiate. Burial of the ashes will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the funeral home.
Robert was born Feb. 12, 1920, in Wall Lake, Iowa, the son of Louis and Iola (Sherwood) Schroeder. He graduated from Wall Lake High School. In 1940, he came to Sioux City and entered the U.S. Army in October 1942. He was a member of the invasion forces at Leyte Island, Philippines and on Okinawa. He returned to Sioux City in 1945 after the service.
On April 3,1943, he married Ruth Foster in Sioux City. She died in December 1971. He then married Evelyn Harder on May 31, 1974, in Elk Point, S.D. Robert worked at the Sioux City Schools Central Kitchen from 1969 until he retired in 1982. He was a member of the Morningside Church of Christ. Robert enjoyed playing cards and he loved fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn D. Schroeder of Sioux City; three sons and their wives, Gary and Cheryl of Carroll, Iowa, Steve and Sharon of Sergeant Bluff, and Scott and Michelle of Bronson, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Stephanie (Aaron) Swanson, Holly (Brandon) Schrauth, Emily (Travis) Hamilton, Adam (Lisa) Schroeder, Kristin Schroeder, Rebekka (Phillip) Maass, Corrie Schroeder; a stepson, Rodger Harder; six stepgrandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth; and his brothers and sisters
