Sergeant Bluff - Robert J. Sekera Sr., 85, of Sergeant Bluff died Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with Chaplain Stacy Gerhart officiating.
Robert was born on Dec. 29, 1927, the son of Emil and Rose Sekera, in Omaha. He was the oldest of three children. Robert grew up and attended school in Omaha. He worked as a business agent for the Labor Local Union 427 in Sioux City for more than 26 years, retiring in 1983.
Robert enjoyed spending time at his lake home in Lake Shetek, Minn., and listening to polka music. He was an avid sports fan and never missed the Nebraska Cornhuskers games. He also enjoyed spending time with his kids, grandkids and his little dog, Muffin.
Robert is survived by his wife, Trudy of Sergeant Bluff; daughter, Jean Ann and Larry Beranek of Omaha; son, Robert and Mary Sekera Jr. of Modale, Iowa; daughter, Rexann and Marlow Smith of Sioux City; daughter, Rhonda and Ray Mersch of Dakota Dunes, S.D.; son, Dan and Stacey Kaler of Sergeant Bluff; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Rose Marie and Bob Patzner of Council Bluffs, Iowa; brother, Emil and Dorothy Sekera of Omaha; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
