Robert George Werkmeister, 91, of Sioux City passed away peacefully Monday, April 11, 2016, at his home surrounded by loved ones.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Jay Denne officiating. Interment will be in Graceland Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Navy. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer and Masonic service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
He was born on July 9, 1924, in Lake View, Iowa, to George and Gladys (Lang) Werkmeister. Bob graduated from Wall Lake High School in 1941 and Morningside College in 1950 with a bachelor's of science in mathematics. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1944 and was honorably discharged in 1946.
Bob married Bette Prince on July 23, 1949, and had their wedding blessed in 1976 at Nativity Catholic Church. He was a professional salesman. He worked various jobs and retired from Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in 1986, where he served as the local union steward. Bob entered into cell phones sales and founded B&B Enterprises.
He was a devoted member of St. Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church and attended many events with his grandchildren enjoying every minute with them. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge 615. Bob loved Princess, their miniature Dachshund, who enjoyed eating Bob's hearing aids.
Survivors include his wife, Bette Werkmeister; daughter, Dr. Dona Prince and Ken Muller; son, Robert Prince and Elizabeth Werkmeister; and grandchildren, Timothy Robert Prince and Amanda Prince.
He was preceded in death by his parents..
