SIOUX CITY -- Rodney Ray Prichard, 48, of Sioux City died Sunday, March 1, 2009, at his residence.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, 1801 Morningside Ave. Visitation with the family will be 1 p.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online at www.christysmith.com .
Rod was born Jan. 23, 1961, in Sioux City, to Ted and Sharon (Welch) Prichard. He attended Sioux City schools and later served in the U.S. Marine Corps for a short time.
He began entertaining at a very young age, beginning with appearances on Poppen's Place at the age of 12. He moved to Marmarth, N.D., after a short time in the U.S. Marine Corps. He joined the Cornerstone Theatre Company in 1991. With them, he toured the nation performing the Shakespeare play "A Winter's Tale," along with co-star Amy Brenneman. His performance was chronicled in an HBO documentary that followed the theatre group across the country.
He played three instruments, sang and wrote his own songs. He was an avid outdoorsman and an accomplished hunter and fisherman. In his later years, he prospected for artifacts and fossils in his beloved North Dakota Badlands. He was a kind and compassionate soul.
He is survived by his father, Theodore Prichard of McCook Lake, S.D.; three sisters, Teddy Ann (Greg) Anderson of McCook Lake, Tammy (Nick) Stamoulis of Milford, Iowa, and Tracy (Keith) Christiansen of Naperville, Ill.; two brothers, Roy (Joan) Prichard of Atlanta, Ga. and Rick (Tracy) Prichard of Sioux City; his extended family, Terry and Jerry Hansen, Monte Hansen and Julie (Butch) Schulte, all of Sioux City; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Sharon Austin; his stepmother, Barbara Prichard; and his "brother", Duke Hansen.
