Roger Wiley Spencer, 80, of Sioux City passed away Friday, Sept. 2, 2016, at his residence.
Per his wishes, cremation rites have been performed. No services will be held at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Roger was born on Sept. 23, 1935, in Sioux City, the son of Clarence and Helen Spencer. He attended Sioux City Community Schools, and graduated from Central High School with the class of 1953. Following his graduation, he entered the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served more than two years. During his time in the Marines, he was awarded the National Defense Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, and the Korean Service Medal. Following his discharge, Roger returned to Sioux City.
Roger was united in marriage with his wonderful wife, Donna. Donna preceded him in death on March 10, 2015. Roger owned and operated Armour Hog Buying for many years until his retirement in 1983.
He loved to play golf his entire life, and watching all sports on television.
He is survived by his daughter, Tammy Hall and her husband, Brian of Elk Point, S.D.; his grandchildren, Tana Kass and husband, Nathan, Spencer Hall and her significant other, Devin Olwell, Justin Spencer, and Wiley Spencer; his five great-grandchildren and one on the way; and two sisters, Sharon Walsh and Sandy Palmer.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Donna; a son, Terry Spencer; and a stepbrother, George Norman.
The family requests that memorials in Roger's name be made to Care Initiatives Hospice.
