Sioux City - Roland O. Navrude, 75, of South Sioux City died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at a local hospital.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jerry Gilbreath officiating. Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Thursday in Soldier Lutheran Church Cemetery, Soldier, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Roland was born on March 19, 1937, in Soldier, Iowa, the son of Oscar and Hazel (Evenson) Navrude. He attended school and graduated from Soldier High School in 1955. Roland continued his education at Iowa State and then went to Morningside College, where he graduated. He lived throughout the Siouxland area, working in hospital administration in Cherokee, Iowa, and later Canton, S.D. Roland moved to Sioux City in the mid-1970s and worked for Reliable Automotive for many years.
Roland was a member of First Lutheran Church in South Sioux City. He enjoyed drag racing and working on cars and engines.
Survivors include his children, Warren Navrude of Sioux City, Karen Pratt of Las Vegas, Nev., Steven and Patrice Navrude of California, Allen Navrude of Las Vegas, and Dawn Navrude of Remsen, Iowa; five grandchildren; and a brother, Stanley Navrude Sr. of Dakota Dunes.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Evonne Nelson
