SIOUX CITY -- Roland W. Wright, 68, of Sioux City died Thursday, June 4, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Charles Wolff officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home. Online condolences may be sent to www.christysmith.com .

Rollie was born on July 20, 1940, in Correctionville, Iowa, the son of Walter and Ruth A. (Jaacks) Wright. He was raised in Correctionville and graduated from Correctionville High School in 1958. After high school, he served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Alaska.

On May 15, 1966, he married LaVonne Bobolz in Cherokee, Iowa. Soon thereafter, the couple settled in Spencer, Iowa, where Rollie worked for Northwestern Bell, and their two sons were born. In 1973, they moved to Leech Lake near Walker, Minn., where they owned and operated the Bayside Resort. They returned to Iowa in 1979 and purchased Brookside Golf Course in Kingsley, Iowa, with their good friends, Chuck and Teresa Mohr. The family moved to Sioux City in 1987, when he became the superintendent for Green Valley and Floyd Golf Courses. Rollie later worked for the Zimco Supply Company until his retirement in 2006.

He was a member of the Iowa Golf Course Superintendent Association and a charter member of "The List" at Green Valley Golf Course. He enjoyed golfing, reading and fishing, but what he loved most was spending time with his wife, his sons and his grandson.

He is survived by his wife, LaVonne; his sons, Thomas of Naperville, Ill., and Scott and his wife, Catherine of Sacramento, Calif.; his grandson, Colin; his sister, Linda Kirchner and her husband, Albert of Sioux City; a brother, Terry and his wife, Colleen of Sioux City; and a sister-in-law, Linda Wright of Correctionville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Norman and Barry; and a sister, Lana.
