SIOUX CITY -- Ronald Joseph DeMers, 51, of Lincoln, Neb., formerly of Sioux City, passed away Sunday, March 4, 2012, in Lincoln.
Memorial services will be 6:30 p.m. Friday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City. The Rev. A. Bertrand, of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee, Iowa, officiating. Visitation will be 5:30 p.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.
Ron was born March 22, 1960, to Raymond and JoAnn (Riley) DeMers. He was born and raised in Sioux City. He attended Sioux City schools and graduated from East High School in 1978. He later attended Western Iowa Tech Community College and obtained an associate degree in police science in 1980. Ron then went to Morningside College and obtained his BS degree. He moved to Omaha in the 1980s and worked in the Omaha area. He later went to Nebraska Wesleyan for paralegal training. He later moved to Phoenix, Ariz., for a few years and returned to Lincoln in the mid-1990s.
He married Colleen Crowber on Feb. 14, 2001. Ron worked for the Nebraska Advocacy as a paralegal for 17 years before he retired in 2011 due to health reasons.
He enjoyed building models and all Nebraska sports. He loved the television show "Survivor," NASCAR races and spending time with his family. He loved animals and worked with a dog rescue program.
Survivors include his wife, Colleen of Lincoln; two children, Miranda and Ron Dussant of Fort Campbell, Ky., and Ryan DeMers of Lincoln; his mother, JoAnn DeMers of Sioux City; a sister, Mikki DeMers of Conroe, Texas; twin brother, Raymond W. and Audrey DeMers of Sioux City; a brother, Rick DeMers of Sioux City; a sister, Teri and Mike McCarthy of San Antonio, Texas; a sister, Lois DeMers of Conroe, Texas; a sister, Vikki and Al Clayton of Rosemont, Minn.; and a brother-in-law, Steve Lamoureux of Wayne, Neb.
He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond; and a sister, Pamela Lamoureux.
