Ronald Fremont Michener, 80, of Anthon died Friday, Feb. 12, 2016, at his home near Anthon.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sioux City Scottish Rite Temple, 801 Douglas Street in Sioux City, with Chaplain Neil Peck and the Rev. Bill Bengtson officiating. Interment will be in West Fork Township at Climbing Hill, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, 1801 Morningside Ave., Sioux City. Ron was born June 5, 1935, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Elza and Lucille (Taylor) Michener. He was raised on the family farm near Climbing Hill, Iowa. He graduated from Climbing Hill High School in 1954 and went on to attend Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa, graduating in 1958.
Ron was united in marriage to Carolyn Bengtson on Aug. 9, 1959, in Alta, Iowa. Ron taught business education at Missouri Valley for 10 years and at Denison for nine more years. Then in 1978, he and Carolyn moved back to the family farm near Climbing Hill.
He was a board member and past president of the Western Iowa Co-op in Hornick, a member of the Valley Masonic Lodge 232 A.F. & A.M. of Missouri Valley, Scottish Rite 1967, 32nd Degree KCCH, Abu Bekr Shrine, past president of the White Horse Patrol in 1986 and longtime business manager of the White Horse Patrol. Ron was responsible for organizing many of the parades across the country including places like Chicago, Washington, D.C., Louisville, Ky., and Indianapolis.
He enjoyed being an avid Iowa Hawkeye sports fan. "Go Hawks." Ron loved to travel with his wife. He especially enjoyed going to Las Vegas and watching the PRCA National Finals Rodeo every year.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Carolyn of Anthon; brother-in-law, Dick and his wife, Kathy Hodge of Wyoming; sisters-in-law, Nancy Speck of Georgia, and Rosalind and her husband, Dick Zubradt of Colorado; a brother-in-law, the Rev. Bill and his wife, Sheri Bengtson of California; many nieces and nephews as well as many great nieces and nephews; and good friend and helper, Brian Doenhoefer of Anthon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Janet Michener; mother-in-law, Mildred Bengtson; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, George and Jean Fullenworth; and brother-in-law, Jerry Speck.
