SIOUX CITY -- Ronald Edward Miller, 65, of Sioux City died Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Michael Catholic Church in Sioux City. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Ron was born Aug. 30, 1946, in Sioux City, to Charles and Esther (Fischer) Miller. He was raised in Sioux City and attended St. Boniface Catholic Grade School and later graduated from Bishop Heelan High School in 1964. He went on to attend Morningside College, graduating in 1969 cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree. He continued his education attending the University of Iowa Business College obtaining a Master of Arts degree, graduating suma cum laude in 1976.
He married Kathleen Maggart in Des Moines on Oct. 25, 1972. Ron and Kathy lived in Des Moines for a short time in 1972, later moving to Waterloo, Iowa, and Columbus, Ohio, returning to Des Moines in 1976 for a short time and then returning to Sioux City, where Ron went to work for IBP in the Industrial Relations Department, later becoming the vice president of Industrial Relations. In 1988, Ron and Kathy purchased The New Sioux City Iron Company. In 1998, the business grew to include the Tool Depot name which had grown to four stores in a 100-mile radius of Sioux City.
He enjoyed cars and drag racing, planting flowers, gardening, and being outside. He learned to take pictures, vacationed with his family, had a love for rocks and watched the Speed channel on TV in his spare time.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy; two daughters, Sara and Rachel of Sioux City; a brother, Leonard (Margaret) and seven children of Sioux City; a sister, Terrie Petersen of Akron, Iowa; brothers and sister-in-laws, Fred (Denise) Maggart of Texas and two children, Tom (Pegi) Maggart of Texas and two children, Marilyn (Gene) Hansen of Nebraska and two children, Dale (Lori Rand) Maggart of Texas, Joanna (Ralph) Landholm Shuck of Wyoming and one child, and Ted (deceased) and Jan Maggart of Texas and four children.
His parents preceded him in death.
