SIOUX CITY -- Rose Marie Fisher, 73, of Sioux City entered into eternal life on Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2010, at her residence, surrounded by her family, following a lengthy battle with cancer.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Salvation Army, 1415 Villa Ave., with Captain Von R. Vandiver officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Rose was born on Oct. 7, 1936, in Sioux City, the daughter of Burley and Gladys (Copenhaver) Bishop. She attended Sioux City schools.
Rose married Richard Fisher Sr. on June 8, 1957, in Sioux City. The couple lived and raised their family in Sioux City, except for nine years they lived in St. Joseph, Mo. Rose was a lifelong member of the Salvation Army and worked with Home League Ministries, volunteering at the thrift store and ministering to others.
She loved to sew and iron. She really enjoyed roses but the most important part of her life was spending time and caring for her children and grandchildren. She was dedicated to her husband Richard Sr., and they were married for 50 years. Richard passed away on Sept. 23, 2007, in Sioux City.
She is survived by her five children, Rosalie (Richard) Ellefson of Le Mars, Iowa, Cynthia Murphy and significant other, Orland Strom of Sioux City, Blanche Fisher of Sioux City, Richard (Tammy) Fisher Jr. of Sioux City, and Melissa (Jason) Uhl of Sioux City, 11 grandchildren, Emily and Matthew Ellefson, Nicholas and Sadie Fisher, Chad Fisher, Deana Vedin, Justin and Tiffany Fisher, Ireland, Fisher and Reagan Uhl; six great-grandchildren; seven brothers and sisters, Dorothy Price of New Port Richie, Fla., John Bishop, Helen (Don) Fredricksen of Sioux City, Blanche (Richard) Davis of Las Vegas, Nev., Lucille Erisman of Glenwood, Iowa, Gustina (John) Heintz of Omaha, Neb., and Patrick (Rose) Hute of Omaha.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister in law, Johanna Bishop; and brothers-in-law, Howard Anderson and Jim Erisman.
