McCook Lake, S.D. - Roy Everett Nickum, 90, of McCook Lake passed away May 7, 2014 at a Sioux City hospital.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City.
Roy was born on Dec. 23, 1923, in Sioux City, to Elic and Annetta (Bailey) Nickum. He married Neva Beardschear on Jan. 20, 1945 in Sioux City. Roy worked as a security guard, driving school instructor, at Allied Lab, Riverside Shopper, Second Hand Store, TV/Radio repair, and Surgical Tech at St. Luke’s.
He enjoyed leather work, painting, dog art, duct tape sculpting, taxidermy, and woodworking. Roy’s family was very important to him.
Survivors include his wife, Neva Nickum; daughter, Karaleen (Bob) Finley; son, Larry (Janet) Nickum; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a half brother, Craig (Lea) Nickum of Lincoln, Neb.; a half sister, Lisa of Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant brothers; a half sister, Renae (Hansen) Nickum; and stepmother, Patti Nickum.
