Roy H. Thies 95, of Sioux City passed away July 14, 2013 at Countryside Retirement Center.
In accordance with his wishes, the body will be cremated. Private family services to be held at a later date. Burial of the cremains will be inurned in Oakwood Cemetery in Pepin, Wis.
He was born on Jan. 30, 1918, in Lacrosse, Wis., to Henry August and Mae (Ficker) Thies. He was raised in Pepin, Wis. He served nearly four years in the United States military.
He married Alma Harden on April 28, 1949. He attended the University of Miami in Florida. Roy spent the majority of his working days in construction, having retired in 1980 from Western Contracting Corporation after 20 years as an accountant.
In earlier years, he enjoyed fishing and hunting with his buddies.
Survivors include his daughter, Carol (Kendall) Smith; grandchildren, Lori and Todd Jansen of Branson, M., Lisa and Michael Wilhoit of Ozark, Mo., and Kelly and Becky Smith of Gretna, Neb.; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and two cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Alma.
