Roy A. Twining, 87, of Sioux City, died Thursday, April 11, 2013, at Westwood Nursing and Rehab Center.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Riverside United Methodist Church . Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Arrangements are with Christy-Smith Berkemier Chapel.
Roy was born July 9, 1925 , in Sioux City , the son of Guy and Irene (Scoville) Twining. He attended Sioux City Public Schools. Roy joined the Navy in 1943 and was honorably discharged in 1946.
He married Bernadette "Bunny" Lyons on Nov. 23, 1946 .
Roy worked at Lewis Bedding Company for several years, later becoming a partner and eventually the owner. He worked for the City of Sioux City in the streets department, and later the airport, retiring in 1990.
Roy enjoyed watching sports and collecting sports memorabilia. He was an avid reader. His favorite western author was Louis L’Amour.
Survivors include his wife, Bernadette "Bunny" Twining of Sioux City; his sons, David (Judy) Twining of Blue Grass, Iowa , and Dennis (Roberta) Twining of Sioux City; his daughter, Kathleen (James) McClain of Sioux City; four grandchildren, Jason, Dennis Jr., Amber and Lavinia; seven great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter expected in June.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a great-grandson, Michael.
