Ruby Rosella Mathwig (Habben)

OTO, Iowa -- Ruby Rosella Mathwig, 85, of Oto died Saturday, July 10, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. today at German City Evangelical Church, German City, Iowa, with the Rev. Paul Mahaffie officiating. Burial will be in Peiro (Bethel) Cemetery, Anthon, Iowa. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until service time today at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of McCulloch Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Moville, Iowa.
Ruby was born July 29, 1924, near Tracy, Minn., the daughter of Roland and Ruby (McLard) Habben. She grew up and attended school near Tracy.
She married Don Mathwig on Oct. 11, 1942, in South Sioux City. They made their home on a farm in Oto. She worked at Wincharger for 15 years. Don had a polka band called the Middle C, that both she and Don played in. Don died in October 1983.
She was a member of German City Evangelical Church. She loved spending time with her family, going to family reunions and her dog and faithful companion, Dolly. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo, reading, collecting bells and ruby dishes and going to casinos.
Survivors include her daughter, Cheryl and Bill Mead of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Lyle and Linda Hubbard of Kalona, Iowa; a brother; five sisters; and a sister-in-law, Gean Mathwig of Palm Desert, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roland and Ruby Habben; her husband, Don Mathwig; three daughters, Gloria, Diane and infant Lois Ann; two sisters, Daisy Stillings and Harriet Habben; and a brother, Roland Habben.
