Ruby L. Schafer, 100, formerly of Sioux City, died Monday, December 7, 2020, at Eventide in Denison, IA.
A graveside service will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, December 16, 2020, at Memorial Park Cemetery. Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, Morningside, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Ruby Lila Lee, the daughter of Frank and Euretha (Jones) Lee was born June 22, 1920, in Ute, IA. She served in the U.S. Navy for three years during World War II in New York, Washington DC, and Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
Ruby married Charles M. Schafer on December 14, 1956.
Ruby lived in Omaha, NE and was employed at Cummins Midwest as a purchasing agent. She then joined her husband, where he owned Schafer Upholstery and Decorating.
The couple moved to Sioux City a number of years ago, where Ruby owned Ruby Custom Draperies. Charles died June 17, 1995.
Ruby was a charter member of the American Business Women’s Association and was woman of the year in 1985. She was also a member of Business and Professional Women, the Elco Garhum Study Club, the Amateur Organ Club, a music group called “New Chords”, the Monahan American Legion Post and Auxiliary, and First United Methodist Church.
Ruby is survived by many nephews and nieces.
