Rueben L. Bolles, 88, of Sioux City passed away peacefully Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016, after a brief illness.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
Rueben was born Aug. 29, 1928, on a farm east of Oto, Iowa. In 1945, at age 17, he went into the U.S. Navy, and was honorably discharged in 1949. He was a member of the Navy Reserve for 20 years.
He worked at Swift Company for 35 years, retiring in 1984.
Rueben spent many years volunteering in the community. He was an active member of the American Legion and Grace Methodist Church.
He loved gardening, playing cribbage and spending time with his wife, family and friends. He enjoyed taking long walks with his wife, Kathleen. They could be seen frequently walking in the Singing Hills Mall during inclement weather.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Kathleen Bolles; his eight children, Denny Lalley, Nancy Seamount, Lee Lalley, Diana DiPietro, Laura Montano, Rhonda Chapman, Tammy Hamby and Thomas Bolles; a sister, Lois Countryman; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Kelley; 22 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and three sisters.
