SIOUX CITY -- Russell L. Orr, 87, of Akron, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, died Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009, at Akron Care and Convalescent Center.
Services will be 1 p.m. today at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City, with the Rev. Ryan Christenson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to

Russell was born Feb. 16, 1922, in Salix, Iowa, the son of Elmer and Nancy (Leming) Orr. He was raised in the Sergeant Bluff area. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He had married Betty Orr and the couple later divorced in 1960. He moved to Sioux City in the 1960s. He had owned and operated his own tree trimming and cutting business for many years. He then went to work for the City of Sioux City in the tree trimming department. He remained in Sioux City until his health forced him to the nursing home in Akron in August 2007.
He is survived by two brothers, Ward Orr of Akron and Harold Orr of Sherwood, Ore.; three sisters, Shirley Leedom of South Sioux City, Dollie Hodges of Sioux City and Edith and her husband, Ralph Mandicino of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Milton Brubaker and Virgil Orr; and three sisters, Evelyn Orr, Ethel Frye and Alta Hodges.
