SIOUX CITY -- Ruth B. Campbell, 87, of Sioux City passed away Monday, Aug. 10, 2009, at a local nursing home.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, with the Rev. Al Hohl officiating. There will be a private family burial service. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Friday.
Ruth was born Oct. 16, 1921, in Atlantic, Iowa, to Fred and Myrtle (Togersen) Geiger. She grew up in Atlantic, Iowa, with her 10 brothers and sisters. She graduated from Atlantic High School in 1941. Later she graduated from Van Sant Business School in Omaha in 1942.
On Sept. 10, 1943, Ruth married Master Sergeant Fred H. Campbell in Las Vegas, Nev. Their courtship was short from the time they met until the day they were married. However, the marriage lasted 64 years and was still blooming until the end. Fred passed away Feb 6, 2007, in Sioux City.
Ruth and Fred first lived in Columbia, S.C., then North Sioux City (Stevens) S.D., Morningside and Sergeant Bluff, Iowa. In the later years they also resided at Northern Hills Independent Living.
Ruth worked at Beemus Bag Co. in Omaha, Wilson Trucking in North Sioux City and T.S. Martin in the toy department and Rehan's Department Store, both in Sioux City. During her spare time she enjoyed reading, playing cards, crafting with her friends in Siouxland Craft Club and taking care of her family.
She is survived by a son, Thomas M. and Tedda Campbell of Peoria, Ariz.; a daughter, Ruth Holder of Sioux City; three grandchildren, Kelley and JR Howe of Las Vegas, Nev., Molly Campbell of Portland, Ore., and Tom H. Campbell, stationed in Korea; two great-grandchildren. Candace Jo and Joshua Tanner Howe of Las Vegas; three stepgrandchildren and their families; two sisters, Lois Simonsen of Sacramento, Calif., and Barbara and Don Witte of Atlantic; a sister-in-law Mary Gieger of Omaha; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her husband, parents, five sisters, three brothers, and five brothers-in-law.
