Ruth Hazel Headley (Soderquist)

SIOUX CITY -- Ruth Headley, 84, of Sioux City died Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, at her residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, with the Rev. Randy Rasmussen officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a Order of the Eastern Star Rose Croix Chapter 400 and prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Ruth Hazel Soderquist was born Oct. 18, 1924, in Marshalltown, Iowa, to John and Theresa (Bull) Soderquist. She graduated from Marshalltown High School with the class of 1942. She went on to nursing school, where she received her register nursing degree.

She and Don Headley were married Dec. 26, 1946, in Marshalltown. She worked at the Methodist Hospital in Sioux City and was a bookkeeper and administrator for Green Acres Nursing Home.

She was a Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Isis Chapter and a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star Rose Croix Chapter. She was a former member of Whitfield United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and worked with the youth group (MYF). She also was a member of the South Sioux City Eagles.

She is survived by her husband, Don of Sioux City; a daughter and her husband, Kathleen and Melvin Ishii of Springfield, Va.; sons and their wives, Donald and Shelda of Sioux City and Richard and Rigel of Lakewood, Colo.; a daughter, Susan Headley of Sioux City; a brother and his wife, Russell and Kay Soderquist of Grand Junction, Colo.; grandchildren and spouses, Dr. Hope Ishii, Faith Ishii, Dr. Joy Ishii and Kostadin Djordjev, Heidi Headley, Jenniffer and Laune Morrow, Wendy and Brian Ernst and Kerry and Shandy Aldrich; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Lowell Soderquist.
