SIOUX CITY -- Ruth Mae Larson, 90, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. James Bruch officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 5 p.m. today, with a parish vigil at 2 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes. Online condolences may be sent to

Ruth was born March 27, 1919, at Kankakee, Ill., the daughter of Alfred and Bernadette (Default) Bertrand. As a young girl, she moved with her family to the Salix, Iowa, area, where she attended school and graduated from St. Joseph's Catholic High School. After graduation, she moved to Sioux City, where she worked at Johnson Biscuit Co.
Ruth married Clarence Larson on April 24, 1946, at the Cathedral in Sioux City. In their retirement years, they enjoyed spending time at their cabin at Alexandria, Minn. Clarence died July 10, 2002.
Ruth was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church. She enjoyed music, especially polka. She also liked dancing and was very active with the Senior Center.
Survivors include a son, Richard and Buffy Larson and family of Sioux City; a granddaughter, Krista Lee Holcomb Pride of Sioux City; two brothers, Merrill Bertrand of South Sioux City, and Charles Bertrand of Sergeant Bluff; and four sisters, Rose Pearson of Bronson, Iowa, Amelia and James O'Hara of Lake City, Iowa, Teresa and Bob Christiansen and Maria Layna and Paul Cuce, all of California.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Bernadette Bertrand; her husband, Clarence; a daughter, Regina "Jean" Fork; five brothers, Donald, Richard, Henry, Terrance and Francis Bertrand; and three sisters, Arlene Deduke, Pearl Martinez and Beverly Knight.
