Ruth Ann W. Kern, 74, of Sioux City passed away Monday, Jan. 25, 2016, at her home.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. The Rev. Armand Bertrand will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a rosary at 4 p.m., the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Ruth was born on Oct. 14, 1941, in Cushing, Iowa, the daughter of Lloyd and Eleanor (Reinert) Groves. She moved to Sioux City as a child and graduated from East High School in 1960.
Ruth married Al Kern on June 3, 1961, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sioux City. She worked in the office of L & L Builders in Sioux City for 20 years, retiring in 2000.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. As a couple, Al and Ruth enjoyed traveling all over the United States, she particularly enjoyed going to the beaches. The other most important part of Ruth's life was going to her grandchildren's activities whether it was sport or other activities.
She is survived by her husband, Al of Sioux City; her daughter, Tracy (Scott) Meadows of Fairmont, Minn.; a son, Troy (Cara) Kern of Sioux City; five grandchildren, Spenser and Colin Meadows, Hayli (Luke) DeJong, Chase and Ariel Kern; her brother, L. Donald (Jean) Groves; her mother-in-law, Fama Forney; and many nieces and nephews.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Dolly Sanvold.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Hospice of Siouxland and Immaculate Conception Parish.
