SLOAN, Iowa -- Ryan Jacob Reed, 6, son of Jason Reed of South Sioux City and Teresa Palomino of Sloan, died Thursday, July 7, 2011, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City, with the Rev. Richard Moore officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Online condolences may be sent to www.christysmith.com .

There will be memorial services held at a later date in Sloan.

Ryan was born Dec. 1, 2004, in Sioux City, the son of Jason Reed and Teresa Morey. He moved with his mother to Sloan, where he attended kindergarten at Westwood. Ryan won two first-place ribbons in races this year at school. He loved his kindergarten class and Sunday school.

Ryan was very energetic and outgoing. He liked visiting with people. He wanted to be a soldier when he grew up, a Marine. Ryan enjoyed playing with his toy guns, trains, cars and playing video games, mostly Call of Duty, Black Ops. Spiderman was his favorite hero. He was always ready to go to McDonalds for chicken nuggets, fries and a toy.

Survivors include his mother, Teresa Palomino and husband, Asa Church of Sloan; his father, Jason Reed of South Sioux City; a brother, Anthony Reed of Minnesota; two sisters, Jasmine Palomino and Breanna Palomino of Sloan; his paternal grandmother, Lauretta Reed of South Sioux City; his maternal grandmother, Carla Morey of Sioux City; several aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Gary Reed and his maternal grandfather, Gerald Morey.
