Sandra Langel

Sioux City - Sandra J. "Sandy" Langel, 69, of Sioux City passed away Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, under hospice care following a lengthy illness, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with a potluck luncheon to follow. Please bring your favorite specialty dish. Private family graveside services will be at a later date. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and an Order of the Eastern Star service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
Sandy was born on Sept. 14, 1943, in Las Vegas, Nev., to Rudolph and Marian (Rowley) Johnson Gretter.
Sandy married Robert Keith Nappe in December 1959 and they had five children. In September 1974, she married David Ray and they had a daughter. Later Sandy married the love of her life when she wed "Tiny" Langel on May 22, 1981. Tiny and Sandy founded TySan trucking and she later worked at Siouxland Regional Transit, where she retired as director.
Sandy loved to sing karaoke and sang in many competitions. She had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed camping and walking the trails by the river. Sandy loved to care for others and in addition to being a fantastic mother and grandmother, she took in more than 30 foster children and became Grandma to them as well. She was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star and volunteered time at Mid-Step Services.
Survivors include her sons, Brian Nappe and Ben Nappe; daughters, Joanne (Henry) Hildebrand and Mishelle Pyle; stepchildren, Dennis Langel, Vicky (Steve) Hemmelman, Steve (Tammy) Langel, Ken (Ruth) Langel, Julie Miller and Vonnie (Deana Mercer) Langel; siblings, Candance Weiand, Randy Johnson, Mark Johnson, and Danny Johnson; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Robert Nappe Jr., and Jeff Nappe; husband, Tiny Langel; and sisters, Marilyn Higley and Barbra Brodsho.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice of Siouxland.
The family would like to thank Dr. Ross Bacon, Hospice of Siouxland, and the staff of St. Luke's Regional Medical Center for the exemplary care that they provided to Sandy.
