Selma E. Herfel, 93, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, Jan. 1, 2015, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be in Eastview Cemetery, Allen, Neb.. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Selma was born on Sept. 17, 1921, in Emerson, Neb., to Conrad and Anna (Messerschmidt) Kruse. She lived in Emerson, Homer, South Sioux City, Neb., and Lawton, Iowa, before moving to Sioux City in 1970.
She was united in marriage to Harold Herfel. Selma worked in the gift shop at the Sioux City Museum for 20 years.
She also volunteered at the Goodwill and was a commander of the Navy Mothers for several years. Selma was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She enjoyed crocheting and loved Explorers baseball.
Those left to honor her memory include her sons, Ken (Judy) Herfel of Papillion, Neb., and Dan (Tina) Herfel of South Sioux City; nine grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and a brother, Orville Kruse of Chicago, Ill.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; son, Gary; and nine brothers and sisters.
