Serhey 'John' John "John" Pylelo

SIOUX CITY -- Serhey "John" Pylelo, 89, Sioux City passed away on Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011 at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Daniel Guenther officiating. Burial will be Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m., with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., Monday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Serhey was born on March 6, 1922 in Sioux City. He was the son of Alexander and Anna Pylelo. He graduated East High School in 1940 and entered the U.S. Coast Guard on Dec. 23, 1942 and served until Jan. 28,1946. He worked as a salesman for Montgomery Ward in Sioux City from 1947 until it closed in 1979. He then went to work for Coast to Coast in Morningside from 1980 until 2000. John married Mildred "Milly" Noecker on July 7, 1951 in Sioux City. She died on June 28, 2010.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He enjoyed carpentry and was a fixer-upper. He enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, reading, bowling and playing horseshoes.
He is survived by his children, John and his wife Bobbie of Sioux City, Christa Headid and her husband Jim of Rapid City, S.D., and Tom of Sioux City; six grandchildren, Sara and Carisa Headid, Chad Pylelo, Amanda "Mandy" and Jon O'Hern, Paul and Joan Pylelo, Casey and Brandi Pylelo; seven great-grandchildren, Paxton, Sam, Lucy, Luke and Stella O'Hern, Jude and Olive Pylelo; and sister-in-law, Helen Noecker.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a brother; Alex; and a sister, Mary Burkhead.
A memorial has been established in his name.
