SIOUX CITY -- Seth A. Helgersen, 82, of Sioux City passed away unexpectedly Saturday, April 18, 2009, at his residence.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kevin Lee officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Seth was born May 4, 1926, in Inwood, Iowa, to Morgan and Emma (Remer) Helgersen. He grew up in Larchwood, Iowa, and graduated from Larchwood High School in 1944. After high school, he served in the U.S. Navy. Following his time in the service, he came to Sioux City where he met his wife.
He married Evelyn Koch on Nov. 26, 1948, in Sioux City, where they made their home together. To this marriage was born a son, Thomas Morgan on Feb. 25, 1952, and a daughter, Mary Patricia on April 19, 1955. He was a life long trucker, retiring from Sioux Transportation in 1982, after 22 years of service.
He was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church. His hobbies included fishing, spending time at the lake house in Okoboji, Iowa, telling stories, doing yard work and having good conversations with family and friends.
Left to remember him are his wife, Evelyn of Sioux City; a son, Thomas Helgersen and his significant other, Teresa Muckey, both of Sioux City; and a sister, Alice Susie of Larchwood.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Morgan and Emma Helgersen; two sisters; and a daughter, Mary Patricia.
